Dawn McIntyre : Textile Design

BIO

I create visual compositions on paper and silk using a variety of surface design, dyeing, photography, and printing techniques. Screen-printing and text figure heavily in my work—in the form of quotations, haiku, and poetry by Joy McDowell, an award-winning poet from Oregon. Layering media and techniques allows me to explore the yin and yang of design using different forms of contrast - hidden versus revealed, real versus imagined. The edges between surface and layer are blurred to create visual and physical depth. My work has been in galleries and juried shows in many locations throughout the United States. Creating art is a meditative process exploring life and the human spirit. Because of life experiences, my personality has developed complex layers and contrasts, which are often revealed through the creative process and my completed work.
